Family-owned townhouse adorned with tapestries, cherubim, chandeliers- imagine staying in the Wallace Collection.

Location

On a narrow street in the Gothic part of the Old Town, handy for the Arab Baths, museum and main churches.

Size

Three doubles and five suites on four floors. Penthouse suite has its own terrace. Library due to open November.

Food

As in most city-centre hotels there´s no restaurant; breakfast is served in the courtyard garden from balconies of the suites.

Best thing

The Moragues family spent six years on the conversion, and it shows: this is Palma´s smartest new arrival.

Worst thing

No pool to escape the heat; and children will be bored unless they´re big fans of Renaissance art.

X-factor

Lying in the Jacuzzi with Palma´s gargantuan Gothic cathedral framed in the penthouse suite window.

We were treated to coffee and cake at the Hotel Dalt Murada, a 16th century manor house in the heart of Palma´s old quarter. It´s one of those well kept secrets, tucked away in the heart of this fine old city and providing an oasis from the bustle outside.
